A Sydney shooting believed to be gang-related has left two men critically injured — one an alleged associate of the Alameddine crime network, and the other a solicitor thought to be an innocent victim.

The broad daylight attack occurred about 5:10 p.m. on Sunday evening, when a white Toyota HiLux ute was ambushed while stopped at a red light on Church Street in Granville, beneath the M4 overpass — near the border of Granville and Parramatta, in Western Sydney.

Victims Identified in Sydney Shooting

Dawood Zakaria, an alleged associate of the Alameddine crime gang, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and is currently fighting for his life in critical condition. Sylvan Singh, a solicitor with no known links to criminal activity, was shot in the arm and leg. He remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Two other men who were also in the vehicle at the time were uninjured.

Emergency Services Respond to Sydney Shooting Crime Scene

NSW Police were called to the scene following reports of gunfire. Officers arrived to find Zakaria and Singh inside the car with multiple gunshot wounds. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated both men at the scene before rushing them to hospital.

Vehicle Found Burning in Merrylands Shortly After Shooting

Not long after the Granville shooting, police were called to Sherwood Street in Merrylands — just minutes away — where they discovered a vehicle and a nearby tree engulfed in flames. Fire and Rescue NSW crews quickly responded and extinguished the blaze, but the vehicle was completely destroyed.

NSW Police have confirmed they are investigating whether the two incidents are linked. A crime scene has been established in both Granville and Merrylands as detectives continue their inquiries.

Gang Violence Suspected as Motive

The Sydney shooting is being treated as a targeted underworld attack. Court documents revealed that Zakaria was also the intended target of a daylight shooting in Brighton-Le-Sands earlier this year, though no injuries were reported in that incident.

This latest violent episode is believed to be part of the ongoing conflict between rival organised crime groups in Sydney.

Public Urged to Assist Police Investigation

Police are urging any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage from the Granville or Merrylands areas around the time of the shooting to come forward.
