Two firearms have been seized from a suspicious vehicle in Sydney’s west during proactive policing efforts under Taskforce Falcon.
The incident occurred around 5:45pm on Tuesday, 27 May 2025, when officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command were conducting targeted patrols as part of the recently formed taskforce. They discovered an allegedly stolen Mercedes parked on Junction Street in Guildford.
During a search of the vehicle, police uncovered a semi-automatic assault rifle, a handgun, face coverings, a jerry can filled with fuel, and ammunition. All items and firearms were seized, and a crime scene was established for forensic examination.
Taskforce Falcon was launched by the State Crime Command in May 2025 to combat violent and organised crime across the Sydney metropolitan area.

Detective Superintendent Jason Box, Commander of Taskforce Falcon, said the discovery highlights the taskforce’s proactive approach to crime prevention.
“This vehicle—containing weapons and fuel—represents a real and immediate threat,” Det Supt Box said. “It’s a clear example of the kind of violence we’re working to prevent before it happens.”
He praised the swift actions of the officers involved, noting that the early success of Taskforce Falcon reinforces the importance of visible and preemptive policing.
