Mesquite Police Arrest Teenager Connected to Shooting of Delivery Driver

A 17-year-old suspect is in custody following the shooting of a DoorDash delivery driver in Mesquite, Texas, late last month. Police arrested the teen on Monday following an investigation into the October 27 incident.

Shooting During Late-Night Delivery

According to the Mesquite Police Department, officers responded to a shooting call just before 12:30 a.m. on October 27 in the 2000 block of Birch Bend.

Investigators determined that a DoorDash driver was completing a delivery at a residence when a male subject, described as wearing dark clothing, approached the vehicle. Police state the suspect began firing at the driver before fleeing the immediate area.

Victim Hospitalized

Upon arrival, officers located the delivery driver, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Police rendered aid at the scene until fire department personnel arrived.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police confirmed that the driver survived the injuries.

Suspect Apprehended

Following an investigation by the Mesquite Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, the suspect was identified as 17-year-old Ledavion Sockwell.

On Monday afternoon, the Major Crimes Unit, assisted by the Mesquite Tactical Unit, executed arrest and search warrants at a property in the 1400 block of Regent Street. Sockwell was taken into custody without incident.

He has been charged in relation to the shooting.
