Man Charged After Allegedly Biting Police Following Fiery Three-Car Crash in Sydney’s West

A man is set to face court after a dramatic سلسلة of crashes in Sydney’s west allegedly ended with a vehicle bursting into flames and a police officer being bitten during an arrest.

Emergency services were called to Maugham Crescent in Wetherill Park about 11.20pm on Sunday after reports a Toyota SUV had crashed into a parked vehicle.

According to NSW Police Force, bystanders pulled the 35-year-old driver from the SUV moments before the vehicle caught fire.

Crews from Fire and Rescue NSW arrived shortly afterwards and extinguished the blaze.

Police allege the chaos began earlier when the same Toyota SUV collided with a Mercedes coupe on Hassall Street. The Mercedes was being driven by a 64-year-old man.

Investigators claim the SUV then left the scene without stopping before allegedly crashing into a second Toyota SUV driven by a 41-year-old man on The Horsley Drive.

The vehicle allegedly continued on before the final crash in Wetherill Park.

Neither of the other drivers suffered injuries.

Police Officer Allegedly Bitten During Arrest

Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command arrested the 35-year-old man at the scene.

During the arrest, police allege the man bit an officer on the leg and refused to undergo roadside breath testing.

The officer was treated at the scene but did not require hospitalisation.

The accused was taken to Cabramatta Police Station, where he was charged with multiple offences including assaulting a police officer, resisting police, refusing a breath test, refusing breath analysis after arrest, and traffic-related offences.

He was refused bail and is due to appear before Fairfield Local Court on Monday.

Similar Police Chase Incident in Sydney Earlier This Year

The incident follows several major crash-related arrests across Sydney in recent months.

In another widely reported case earlier this year, a driver allegedly rammed multiple vehicles during a police pursuit through western Sydney before being arrested after crashing into a traffic barrier. That incident also involved allegations of resisting officers during the arrest.

Police have repeatedly warned drivers about the dangers of fleeing crash scenes, particularly in busy suburban areas where innocent motorists and pedestrians can quickly become caught up in dangerous situations.
