A Fake Image at the Worst Possible Time
The incident unfolded in Daejeon, South Korea, where a rare wolf named Neukgu had escaped from a local zoo. Officials had already issued alerts and launched a search operation, warning residents to stay cautious.
Then the image appeared online.
It showed a wolf wandering through a city street at night. The lighting, shadows, and detail made it look real enough that many people – including authorities – took it seriously.
The timing couldn’t have been worse.
Emergency responders reportedly treated the image as a legitimate sighting, redirecting attention and resources as they worked to track the escaped animal.
Search Effort Grows as Panic Spreads
As the image spread across social media, concern grew among residents. The idea that a wild predator was roaming populated streets added to the fear already surrounding the escape.
