What should have been a simple birthday celebration ended in shocking violence after a prank went horribly wrong, leaving three men dead.
The incident happened in the Khurja area of Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh, where 33-year-old Jeetu Saini had gathered with friends inside a local gym to celebrate his birthday. By all accounts, it started like any other party. There was cake, laughter, and a group of close friends marking the occasion together.
That changed in an instant.
According to reports from NDTV and Gulf News, several of Saini’s friends followed a common birthday tradition and smeared cake across his face. It is something that happens at parties all over the world, usually met with laughter or mild annoyance.
This time, it sparked something else.
Witnesses say Saini became visibly angry, and what started as a joke quickly turned into a heated argument. The confrontation involved three of his friends, later identified as Amardeep Saini, Manish Saini, and Akash Saini. People at the scene tried to calm things down, but the mood had already shifted.
Saini eventually walked out.
For a brief moment, it may have seemed like the situation was over. But it wasn’t.
Police say he returned not long after, this time with a firearm and several others. Without warning, shots were fired inside the gym, sending people scrambling for safety. The same friends he had been arguing with were hit.
They were rushed to hospital, but all three later died from their injuries.
Investigators believe the shooting was directly linked to the earlier argument, with the birthday prank acting as the trigger for the escalation. What began as a minor disagreement quickly turned into something irreversible.
Authorities launched a manhunt in the hours that followed. Several people connected to the incident were taken in for questioning as police worked to piece together what happened inside the gym.
Later developments reported by The Times of India suggest the main suspect was eventually tracked down and killed during a police encounter. The case is still under investigation, and officials have not ruled out the involvement of others.
The story has drawn widespread attention, not just because of the violence, but because of how ordinary the moment was before everything changed. A small gesture, something meant as a joke, ended in the loss of three lives.
