Woman, 28, Allegedly Posed as Teenager to Attend New York High School

A bizarre case out of New York City has gone viral after a 28-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly pretending to be a teenage student and attending classes at a Bronx high school for nearly two weeks.

Authorities say the woman, identified as Kacy Claassen, enrolled at Westchester Square Academy using a fake identity and claimed she was a 16-year-old girl named “Shamara Rashad” who had recently moved from Ohio.

According to investigators, Claassen successfully attended classes, interacted with students, and was even issued a school ID before school officials became suspicious. The alleged scheme reportedly collapsed after the principal discovered a social media profile revealing her real age and identity.

Police arrested the woman on April 27, charging her with criminal impersonation and trespassing. Court records show she pleaded not guilty and was later released pending further proceedings.

Students Said “Something Felt Off”

The strange case quickly sparked fear and confusion among students at the Bronx school.

Several teenagers later told local media they believed the woman looked noticeably older than other students and behaved strangely in class. One student described the situation as “terrifying,” while another said classmates had joked that the woman seemed “too old” to be there.

Students also claimed the woman regularly stayed after class for extra help sessions and blended in surprisingly well despite suspicions from some classmates.

The incident reportedly triggered a temporary school lockdown while police investigated.

Alleged Motive Raises More Questions

According to court documents, Claassen allegedly told investigators that a friend pressured her into posing as a teenager in order to access additional public assistance benefits.

Authorities have not explained exactly what benefits may have been involved, but the case has fueled intense debate online over school security, identity verification, and how an adult allegedly managed to enroll in a public high school without immediately being detected.

A spokesperson for New York City’s public school system called enrollment fraud a “serious crime” and confirmed police were continuing their investigation.

Similar Cases Have Happened Before

While the story sounds like something out of a movie, investigators noted it is not the first time an adult has allegedly posed as a student in the United States.

In 2023, a 29-year-old woman in New Brunswick was accused of using fake documents to enroll at a high school as a teenager.

Another case in Dallas saw a man in his mid-20s enroll in high school under a false identity before later being charged over inappropriate conduct involving a minor.

The Bronx incident has since exploded across social media, with many users comparing it to movies like Never Been Kissed and 21 Jump Street, while others questioned how modern school systems could still be vulnerable to such deception.
