A family in the United States was left horrified after a block of frozen human waste reportedly fell from the sky and smashed through the roof of their home while they were inside.
The bizarre incident happened in Levittown, Pennsylvania, when a large chunk of what investigators believed to be frozen airplane toilet waste crashed through the roof of a family house during the early morning hours. The impact left a hole in the ceiling and scattered debris throughout the home.
Homeowner Michael Forker said the object tore through the roof before landing in an upstairs bedroom. Luckily, nobody was injured, but the family described the experience as terrifying.
According to reports, the substance was believed to be “blue ice,” a frozen mixture of human waste and disinfectant fluid that can leak from aircraft toilet systems at high altitudes. While modern aircraft are designed to safely contain waste, rare leaks can occur if equipment malfunctions or seals fail.
The family claimed they initially thought something had exploded inside the house before discovering the damage overhead. Investigators later examined the debris and reportedly linked it to aircraft waste based on its appearance and colour.
Aviation experts say incidents involving falling “blue ice” are extremely uncommon, but similar cases have been reported around the world over the years. Because the waste freezes solid at high altitude, it can become extremely dangerous by the time it hits the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration has previously acknowledged that frozen waste leaks can happen, though most incidents melt before reaching populated areas.
Despite the shocking nature of the incident, the Pennsylvania family said they were simply grateful nobody was standing in the room when the frozen mass crashed through the ceiling.
